The General’s Wine & History Trail is a wine experience featuring 10 Virginia wineries and 13 Civil War historical sites.
In 2009 ten wineries banded together to form a new type wine trail experience. The new wine trail experience was to tie our rich wine heritage with our rich historical heritage and thus the General’s Wine & History Trail was born.
Each of these wineries below offer distinctive and world-class quality wines. You can experience our national history in your own backyard just outside of our nation’s capital – Washington D.C. Come and taste the passion from winemakers’ styles stemming from their heritages or aspirations – from Burgundy, to Bordeaux, to Rhone styles, to Methode Champenoise sparkling wines; to Virginia varieties… we have something for everyone on the General Wine & History Trail.
We invite you to enjoy the beautiful landscapes, the Civil War history, and the wonderful wines where so much of the Civil War occurred. Scouting this trail will take you through a land of rolling hills, majestic mountains, sweeping grasslands and winding rivers. In the 1860’s the Blue and the Gray pushed each other back and forth across these lands. Today, the whispers of the past linger, and one can drink in the over-whelming sense of their story in these historic towns.
